laptop has picked up virus. help please.

edit: 10.50pm - so the below problem seems to be fixed. am doing a deep scan of the lappy after restarting it when the previous scan was completed. here's hoping this fixed the problem *fingers and toes crossed* bed now for me as the laptop can do the deep scan without me and I'll fix it in 6 hours when i get up. am so sleeping this weekend along with doing that backup thing *clings to all* /edit

so the stupid laptop picks up that xp defender trojan virus thing as i'm shutting off firefox. you know, the one that tells you you have problems and switches off your firewall *headdesk* am currently doing a scan on the lappy to see what is what. advice please of techie thinking friends *puppy eyes*

and to think i have to get up at 5.30am. so much for my relaxing evening. will definitley be doing a back-up of the laptop this weekend. must get rid of this virus first.
