Book of Love: Voucher 40

“Argh no more. My fingers are cramping.”

“No, you can’t stop now. There still so much to get done.”

“Then come over here and help cut these hearts out.”

“That sounds so wrong,” Zell said, not looking up from his seat next to Selphie and the banner they were working on.

“But it’s exactly what I’m doing,” Irvine complained as he flexed his fingers in an attempt to regain full circulation. Small scissors he decided were not for use with big hands.

“Yeah and saying it like that makes you sound like some kind of killer with a heart fetish.”

“Gross Seifer,” Selphie said. She pulled a face as he laughed.

“Just telling you how it sounds.”

“Yeah and no one asked for that opinion, blondie,” Irvine said, throwing a piece of scrap paper at Seifer. “Besides,” the Galbadian sniper smirked knowingly, “I do have a heart fetish…only for Squall’s heart.”

There was a moment of horrified silence at this declaration as every head turned to look at Squall.

“Galbadia’s greatest sniper reduced to a romantic sap,” Seifer spoke up first. “This is so your fault Leonheart.”

“Whatever,” Squall shrugged, looking unworried at something he knew and lived with each day. His current major concern was heart cutting that all of them should be doing.

“Whatever?” Seifer echoed. “I don’t know how he still functions properly with how he’s been excessively mooning over you since he gave you that book.”

“You’re one to talk,” Squall said, giving Zell a knowing glance.

“Oooh…what was today’s voucher?” Selphie asked, momentarily distracted from her work.

“Irvine manages just fine,” Squall told Seifer, ignoring Selphie. “Do you want me to authorize a fight to prove this?” he asked, eyes narrowing slightly. The sooner they finished cutting out the decorations for Selphie’s Valentines event, the sooner his office would be his own again. Squall longed for some true quiet.

“Pfft. Everyone knows it’s only you I fight,” the blond announced with a indulgent chuckle. “No one else is worthy enough to cross blades with me.”

“Conceited ass,” Zell mumbled under his breath earning him a poke from his boyfriend.

“Hey, I asked a question,” Selphie complained loudly.

“Try me Seifer,” Irvine purred, leaning forward in his seat and dropping his scissors onto the table. “You’ll find I don’t go down easy.”

“Will you pair stop it,” Squall growled, finally deciding he’d had enough. “I can send you on a mission in the next hour if you are that bent on seeing combat action.”

“Um, Squall…I don’t’ think they’re that serious,” Selphie said carefully.

“That’s it,” Squall slammed his scissors onto his desk and stood, pointing to the door. “Out! All of you out of my office now. I do not want to see any more red for the rest of the day. I do not want to hear of fighting or I will send everyone on a mission before dinner tonight…and that includes you, Selphie.”

Selphie’s mouth snapped shut and she stared at Squall. The shock passed after a moment and everyone jumped up and began quickly putting supplies into boxes to move to another room, one that didn’t hold a pissed off Commander.

“Damn Irvine, haven’t you been putting out for our Commander? He sounds frustrated.”

“Fuck off, Seifer,” Irvine growled as he moved away from the table and towards Squall who was still standing behind his desk. “Squall? Wanna tell me what’s up? This is not you.”

“Tired I think,” the brunet admitted, leaning against Irvine when the sniper wrapped his arms around his shoulder. He stared blindly at everyone packing up and leaving. “I’ve been fending off mission requests, passing them to Martine where I can, just so everyone is here for Selphie’s event. Helping prepare for the event on top of all our usual duties has taken more out of me than I thought it would.”

“Sounds like someone needs a nap,” Irvine said, nuzzling Squall’s hair.

“I’m not a child Irvine,” Squall hissed, trying to twist in Irvine’s tightening hold.

“Sure you’re not but a nap can give you an energy boost and help de-stress some. C’mon, we can snooze on the couch.”

“You’re not going to take no for an answer,” Squall sighed, knowing the answer even as he spoke the words.

“Nope. Get your boots off while I tell the secretary that there’s to be no disturbances,” Irvine ordered, releasing Squall and heading for the door.

“Half an hour,” Squall said as he sat on the couch and removed his boots. “No more than that.”

“Sure, love, whatever you say.”

Laying down to wait for Irvine to return, Squall was asleep moments after his head hit the cushions.

*****

“Nnnh mmm.”

“Hey there sleepy head.”

Rubbing his face against the chest under his cheek, Squall tilted his head and blinked sleepily at his lover. “How long has it been?”

“Oh, about two hours.”

“What?” the brunet said and tried to sit up only to be held against Irvine’s chest by the arms looped at his waist. “I said a half hour. You agreed.”

“Yeah, but your body didn’t. I tried to wake you,” Irvine said truthfully. He looked off to the table beside them. “You even slept through the arrival of these.”

“My roses.”

“Yup, as requested,” Irvine smiled and kissed Squall’s cheek.

“They’re orange,” Squall observed flatly. “I hate orange.”

The announcement didn’t faze the sniper and his chest shook with light laughter as he leaned close to nuzzle against Squall‘s skin.

“I thought about getting red ones but these say it better, something along the lines of passion, excitement, enthusiasm and desire.” Irvine nibbled on Squall’s ear. “Besides everyone is giving red roses at this time of year.”

“If that’s what they say then I see your point,” Squall agreed. “Not to mention feel it.”

“Not my fault you don’t keep still while sleeping,” Irvine murmured, a purr in his voice. “Plus you are a warm comfortable weight that my body recognizes. Of course it’s going to get excited.”

“Mmm I think we might be able to do something about this,” Squall said, moving to slide downwards before he found his arms grabbed by Irvine.

“Uh no we can’t, or at least not right now,” Irvine said quickly, looking almost pained at what he was turning down. “Would love to but we don’t have time.”

“Why not?” Squall asked, stilling his movement and watching Irvine carefully. He decided Irvine looked worried and guilty.

“Um…kinda told everyone to come back after you’d had a nap…And that would be them right now.”

Almost as if called Selphie let herself into the room, Zell and Seifer close on her heels. Squall arched a brow at Irvine before having to quickly reach out and pull his roses from Selphie’s grasp.

“Oooh Squall got roses…but they’re orange. Irvine you are so unromantic,” she told him as she poked at the voucher sitting on the table with a frown, Love Voucher: A bunch of roses.

“Am not.”

“Are too.”

“Am not cos those roses…mmphmmmm.”

“Err I guess that’s our cue to leave again,” Zell said, grabbing Selphie by the arm and forcibly dragging her from the room as Squall kissed Irvine to silence.

Seifer paused at the door and programmed it to lock after they left. “See you guys for dinner at our place.”

First let me say there is no such thing as IxS spam - there can NEVER be too much of this pairing...

Next I want to say thank you - I came in from a night shift tired - feet swollen and found the link waiting. I read pretty fast but this time I got my cup of tea, put my foot up and read extra slow savoring everything... Bliss.

Reading fic while being able to relax is a lovely thing, esp when you've had a hard night of work. Glad I could help end your evening on a high note. Sadly no progress yet on the last parts yet. I'm distracted by Suikoden V from everything and am being good tonight and leaving the game off so I can get caught up on email...which is why its taken me so long to reply ^^; I must remember too to keep editing and posting it to the comm but that is also getting left behind for gaming. I am so easily distracted by shiny.
