"Do you know where we are, Laguna?" Kiros asked his lover as they entered the conservatory.

"No, of course I don't," Laguna huffed. "This blindfold you made me put on in my office blocks out everything. I'm pretty sure we're not outside though."

"Not yet," Kiros agreed, placing his hand back over the one resting on his arm and moving forwards once more, pleased when Laguna didn't hesitate.

The journey from the President's office to where they were now had been surprisingly easy considering Laguna could not see and had to rely on Kiros for guidance. It warmed his heart to know that his friend and lover trusted him this much. Stopping at the far end of the path, Kiros removed Laguna's hand from his sleeve.

"Wait here and no peeking," he ordered, giving the long fingers a light squeeze as he moved away to open the doors that lead out to the balcony. Returning to Laguna's side, Kiros stood behind him and removed the blindfold. "There we go."

Blinking a few times to get his eyes adjusted to the early evening light, Laguna looked around and smiled. The conservatory was one of his favourite places within the palace, a close second to the kitchen that he went to for midnight snacks.

"What's the table for?" Laguna asked, walking out past the table set for two to lean on the metal railing and enjoy the fresh air. "We're having dinner here?"

"Yes, Laguna," Kiros said as he joined him, gently trapping his lover between his body and the railing, chin resting on a shoulder as they both gazed out at the city below them. "I was thinking of doing this in the park where that tiny eatery you like so much is but decided I wanted you all to myself," he added, wrapping his arms about Laguna, a piece of paper in his hand that he then held in front of aqua eyes.

Love voucher: A Moonlight Dance Laguna read, reading it through a second time before turning in Kiros' arms to look up at him.

"But the moon isn't up yet," he pointed out, wriggling his arms out of Kiros' so he could wrap them about him.

Leaning down, Kiros smiled as he gave Laguna a quick kiss on the lips and reached up to remove his arms from about him.

"It will be by the time we finish dinner," he said as he stepped back through the door to pula small serving cart from behind some rose bushed.

"Kiros," Laguna whispered, smiling as he took one of the seats and waited to be served.

Lighting the candles at the table as Laguna made himself comfortable, Kiros poured wine for them both before lifting the silver dome lid on what would be their entree. Fresh oysters from Balamb glistened invitingly from the tray, Laguna murmuring his appreciation as he grabbed his first one before Kiros had set the lid aside. Smiling indulgently, Kiros took one as well, slurping it down as his lover licked his fingers.

"They're good," Laguna purred, taking a second and a third, quickly emptying the half shells and washing them down with a sip of wine. "You spoil me too much, love."

"And you appreciate every moment."

They chuckled together, the sound carried over the railing on the light breeze as the sun disappeared beneath the horizon.

"Good thing it never gets really cold here in Esthar or we wouldn't be able to do this," Laguna said when Kiros removed the plate full of discarded shells.

"We'd still have our dinner. It would just be a different setting." Kiros dumped the shells in the bin on the bottom of the cart and pulled out one of the two larger covered plates. "Something involving a large fireplace and a plush rug."

"You're such a romantic, Kiros," Laguna grinned.

"That would be your fault, love," Kiros smirked back as he placed the plates of grilled tuna and vegetables on the table.

"My fault?" Laguna almost choked on his wine.

"I can't help but want to make our private moments special."

"Romantic."

Kiros shrugged and poured more wine, enjoying the purple hues of the darkening sky.

"Where's our kitten?" Laguna asked suddenly.

"With Ward. He'll return her in the morning."

"Oh, okay."

Dinner continued in quiet companionship, the moon large when it slowly rose over the horizon as Kiros and Laguna finished off their dessert of grilled figs drizzled with honey. Laguna was setting his used napkin on his plate and stretching when a dark hand reached out to him.

“Dance with me.”

Smiling as he took the hand, Laguna didn’t look for where the soft music was coming from, nor did he say anything when Kiros took the lead and spun him about the room. Instead he closed his eyes and pressed close to Kiros, reveling in the warmth and the strength of the heartbeat under his ear.

Kiros slowed their steps, swaying a little in time to the music, feet not moving as he stroked his fingers through Laguna’s long hair, from the silver at the temples to the warm brown at the ends that it had always been.

“Laguna.”

“Yeah?”

“How long have we known each other?”

“Second day of cadet training. I tripped over your bag in my hurry to get off my bunk to say hi.”

“A wonderful first impression too,” Kiros chuckled, remembering how he knelt down to help the clumsy youth to his feet only to be captivated by his eyes that he returned Laguna’s wide grin with his own small one without realizing.

Aqua eyes that still captivated him.

“Kiros?” Laguna asked, voice awed and trembling a little. “You…I…”

“Did I say something?” Kiros asked, too busy staring into Laguna’s eyes to remember exactly what he’d said.

“You…you asked me to…”

“Damn…wait,” he said quickly when Laguna tensed in his arms. “I mean it, those words. I…I meant for it to be more romantic but you drive me to distraction.”

Smiling, Kiros held Laguna’s hand to his lips and kissed it.

“Marry me.”

Aqua eyes stared up at him, wide and somewhat disbelieving in the moonlight.

“But…the staff…”

“Really should already know considering how long I’ve been sharing the Presidential rooms with you,” Kiros countered, twining Laguna’s long hair about his fingers.

“The people of Esthar…”

“Will be happy for you and probably think that it’s about time.”

“How do I tell Squall?”

“Your son has already given his blessing. I spoke to him on the weekend.”

Kiros smiled down at Laguna’s surprised face, wondering how long his lover would be shocked to silence.

“Y-you did? And he didn’t say anything to me?”

“He’s better than keeping secrets than you are, love,” Kiros said, tapping Laguna’s nose with a finger.

“Okay.”

“Okay?” Kiros asked, releasing his hold on Laguna’s hair.

“Yes, Kiros.”

Laguna beamed up at Kiros, aqua eyes the happiest he’d seen in a long time, all sparkling and cheerful and slightly teary just for him.

“Thank you” Kiros whispered, gathering Laguna close, breathing in the scent uniquely him and laughing in relief.

“We may have a problem though,” Laguna said as he pressed close.

“What’s wrong?” Kiros asked, leaning back and looking down into slightly worried eyes.

“Who is going to give me away?”
